Title: Broken Record Date: 1982 Description: Orson shares a treasured possession. Comments: The inspiration for this bit came from the classic Wallace & Ladmo shows that I grew up watching. The formula, of course, is as old as comedy itself: valuable object + accidental destruction = laughter. The “Orson” I’m using in this clip is the brand new version I had just made for the show to replace the original. That’s the reason Orson doesn’t want to get near the puppy Melinda is holding… It’s not that he doesn’t like dogs—I didn’t want any wet nose smudges on my new puppet! I also have to point out one glaring error in this bit: Caruso’s “signature” on Orson’s record is supposedly dated 1922—that’s the year afterCaruso died. If I’d only had the Internet back then… Dan Horn |
