In early 1983, almost overnight, “I (heart) NY” bumper stickers seemed to be everywhere you looked in Phoenix.  At that time, I’d never been to New York, but I was pretty sure it wasn’t plastered with “I (heart) AZ” stickers.  So why was The Valley of the Sun so hot for The Big Apple?  I never figured it out, but I had fun with the fad in this seemingly simple bit.  Seemingly because saying “bumper sticker” without moving your lips is anything but simple.  Just try it.
